Cameron to Rice Lake Trail
Cameron-Norma line
There was little to report on the already delayed acquisition of the Cameron to Norma line, which Union Pacific announced it would not sell earlier this year. However, the short-line operator Progressive Rail has an option to buy in their lease, and officials speculated that a simultaneous sale-UP selling to Progressive, Progressive selling to WisDOT-could be arranged.
ATV trails
Planning of the ATV trail slated to run along the Cameron-Rice Lake and Cameron-Barron railroads is a work in progress. Like the rehabilitation of the two lines, the creation of the trail is currently stalled.
The DOT is looking at the ATV trail project and hasn't finished a report yet, said Frank Huntington, DOT.
Blueberry Line
The Barron County property committee voted unanimously to drop any interest in pursuing a walking/hiking/biking trail on the Blueberry line (Cameron to Rice Lake), said French, citing the "major bucks" it could cost the county.
Rusk County Road Route
The Rusk County road route is done. We now have 18 miles of new road route between Wolfs Den and Rusk County Line, also going to Caddy Shack and Somerset. It wasn’t mentioned but we would like to thank Richard Stehling, Dave Faber, Wayne Mittlestaedt,
Al Matson and Duane Horton for getting this done. Also Brian Saffert is working on trying to get some land use agreements for a trail between Wolfs Den and Cameron.
Duane Horton said the cost of Cameron signs would be about $658.00 to upgrade and sign the streets in Cameron that have been opened. Our club will pay $360.00 of the cost and the Village of Cameron or the residents will pay $300.00 . Bill Wells made a motion to approve this and Joel Brown seconded it, motion carried.
